Q 안녕하세요. 오랜만에 인사 드립니다. 인터뷰에 앞서, BXFTYS에 대한 간략한 소개 부탁 드립니다.
It’s great to see you again. It has been a long time. Before we go into the interview, could you please explain briefly about BXFTYS.
A Sound Studio 'BXFTYS(Box of Toys) Audio'는 런던에 자리하고 있는 창의적인 소리를 제작하는 회사입니다.
스튜디오로서의 저희 주력은 어떠한 영상물에 대한 독창적인 음악과 소리를 디자인하는 것이지만 기술력이 빠르게 발전하면서 다른 분야에도 도전 중입니다.
저희 팀의 주요 인력 벤, 매그너스 그리고 크리스, 이렇게 셋이서 5년째 Sound Studio 'BXFTYS'를 운영하고 있습니다.
Box Of Toys Audio is a creative sound company based in London, England.
Our main focus as a studio is creating music and sound design for moving picture but as technology progresses we are expanding into other areas also.
The team is made up of three core members, namely Ben, Magnus and Chris and we have been operating as BXFTYS for 5 years now.
Q 어떤 환경에서 음악을 만드는지 궁금합니다.
사용하고 있는 시퀀싱 프로그램과 마이크, 악기를 비롯한 음향기기에 대한 설명 부탁드립니다.
In what sort of environment do you create your music?
For example, what sort of sequencing program, mike, instruments or sound system do you use?
A 저희가 주로 사용하고 있는 스퀀싱 프로그렘은 Logic X와 Cubase Pro 8.5이고 이 프로그램들로 프로젝트에 사용할 다양한 소리를 수집하고 정리고 있습니다.
수집할 소리들은 라이브 악기, 신디자이저, 스튜디오 녹음, 소프트웨어 샘플 등에서 따옵니다. 소리를 녹음 할 때는 다양한 마이크를 사용하여 어떠한 소리의 여러 가지 ‘맛’을 살리려고 합니다.
예를 들자면, 야외 녹음에는 젠하이저 MKH 418 P48’s, 바이노럴 레코딩에는 Soundman OKM II Studio Classics, 컨택트 레코딩에는 JRF C-Series 마이크를 사용하는 등, 다양한 경우가 있습니다.
신디사이저는 아날로그와 Korg MS20, Arp Odyssey, Arturia MiniBrute와 같은 디지털 신디자이저를 사용합니다. 컴퓨터는 모두 맥북 프로를 사용하고 있고 스피커는 전부 각자 다른 제품을 쓰고 있습니다.
여러 개의 스피커가 있음으로써 각자 다른 기기에서 소리가 어떻게 출력이 되는지 비교해 볼 수 있으며 이것은 저희가 소리의 균형을 잡을 수 있게 도와줍니다.
현재 사용하는 스피커들은 MOTU 828 Mk3 + Adam A7X + Adam Sub 8, MOTU 896 Mk3 + Focal Trio 6 BE + Genelec 7050B, Apogee Ensemble + Genelec 8250A + Genelec 7050B 정도 입니다.
Our main sequencing programs are Logic X and Cubase Pro 8.5 where we collate and arrange all the different sounds for our projects. These sounds might come from live instruments, synthesisers, studio recordings,
software or samples. When recording we use a variety of microphones to capture different flavours of sound, for example we often use Sennheiser MKH 418 P48’s for field recording, Soundman OKM II Studio
